Which baler wrapper size fits your daily tonnage
The 55, 70 and 90 series make bales of very different weights. Daily tonnage, how the bales get moved, and the power available decide which one is right.
Buyers usually start by asking for the biggest machine in the range. That is rarely the right place to start. A baler wrapper is sized by three things: how much material you need to put through it in a day, how the finished bales will be moved, and what power you have on site.
Start with the bale, not the machine
Each series produces a different bale:
- 55 series — 55 × 55 cm bales weighing 60 to 140 kg.
- 70 series (LUC-70) — 70 × 70 cm bales weighing 160 to 200 kg.
- 90 series (LUC-90) — 90 × 90 cm bales weighing 300 to 500 kg.
A 60 kg bale can be rolled and stacked by two people. A 300 kg bale cannot. If you have no loader or tractor with a bale spike, the 90 series will sit still no matter how good its output figures look. This is the single most common sizing mistake we see.
Then check the daily tonnage
The published working figures are 50 to 80 tonnes a day for the 55 belt-type machine and 60 to 100 tonnes a day for the LUC-70. Those are full working days with material arriving steadily and enough people to keep the machine fed and the bales cleared. A crew that stops to move bales every ten minutes will not reach them.
As a rough planning figure, take your peak week rather than your annual average. Silage work is concentrated into a short window, and a machine sized on the average will be the bottleneck exactly when it matters.
Power supply decides more than people expect
The 55 belt-type machine needs 7.5 + 0.75 + 0.37 kW. The LUC-70 needs 11 + 0.75 + 0.37 kW. The LUC-600X needs 15 kW and the LUC-90 integrated machine needs 39 kW. Before quoting anyone a large integrated machine we ask what supply is available at the yard, because a 39 kW machine on a farm with a small generator is a project, not a purchase.
Where there is no reliable mains supply at all, the LUC-55 Diesel with its 18 hp diesel engine is the machine that will actually run. It is the only diesel model in the range.
Integrated or separate wrapping
On the integrated machines the bale is compressed and film-wrapped in one cycle and comes out sealed. On a single-wrapping machine the wrapping step is simpler and the machine is lighter and cheaper to run, but the operation depends more on the crew keeping up.
If your bales sit exposed for even a few hours before wrapping, fermentation has already started in air, and the integrated machines pay for themselves in feed quality rather than in speed.
A short way to decide
- Under 80 tonnes a day, hand-moved bales, ordinary three-phase supply: 55 series.
- Up to 100 tonnes a day with a loader on site: LUC-70.
- Contractor or commercial operation with 39 kW available and mechanical handling: 90 integrated, at 200 tonnes a day.
- No mains power: LUC-55 Diesel.
